It's too bad Utah Valley State College couldn't get Rush Limbaugh instead of Sean Hannity to speak on behalf of “the right.” As a counterbalance to Michael Moore, Mr. Hannity is insufficient. I'm talking about provocateurs that forge with innovation, genuine political monsters battling for the soul of Happy Valley.

Michael Moore has been a singular voice fighting against corporate abuse for nearly two decades. Only recently has the public started to comprehend his cause, thanks to the actions of Enron, Halliburton, et. al. His efforts have always been in defense of the average citizen, but that got lost to conservatives once he criticized the Bush administration.

Rush Limbaugh is also a pioneer, just of a different sort. While designing a radio format of bombastic criticism of liberals, Mr. Limbaugh's vitriol has lowered the standards of political discourse, resulting in the engagement of those otherwise disengaged. Love them or hate them, these two guys are the real deal - originals.

So you have two powerhouse political pundits, one a filmmaking iconoclast, the other a gifted talk radio stimulant. Michael Moore vs. Rush Limbaugh - now that is King Kong vs. Godzilla. Unfortunately we will have to settle for King Kong vs. Mecha Godzilla. Sean Hannity is simply a Limbaugh clone, a pale version of that which he is emulating, getting rich off a proven formula. What a loss of marquee potential.
