Re "Top home-school texts dismiss evolution" ( Tribune , March 7):

Because politically correct evolutionists imposed their beliefs on school systems, children have a biased science curriculum, and once again, due to narrow-mindedness and intolerance, we creationists are insultingly demeaned for beliefs we hold dear.

Taxpayers whose beliefs differ from evolutionists and who are unable to home-educate are disheartened with a curriculum that presents only evolution. Children who challenge evolution face verbal attacks, bullying and worse.

We home-educate to give our children a rich education and to instill values that are shunned by a society that demeans and insults our differences. For example, University of Chicago professor Jerry Coyne's statements: "If this is the way kids are home-schooled, then they're being shortchanged," and "These books are promulgating lies to kids." Unless Coyne has a lifetime study of biblical science, as he has of evolution, he should keep his insults to himself. So home-educating evolutionists feel "outnumbered" and without resources. How does it feel? Use the library.

Susan Mule's daughter read a creationist textbook and said, "This is not true." As Americans, my daughters have the same right to say of evolutionist theory, without fear of condemnation, "This is not true."
