Re "Legislators hold off studying expansion of anti-bias rulings" ( Tribune , Feb. 6.):

Everyone knows that the majority of Utah legislators are inclined to follow the input of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on state and local issues. And since the LDS Church publicly supported Salt Lake City's anti-discrimination ordinances for gays (about which LDS Apostle Jeffrey Holland said, "anything good is shareable"), the only conclusion I can draw regarding the Legislature's hesitancy to expand anti-discrimination ordinances statewide, including the absolute gall to postpone even a study of the issue, is this: These legislators are struggling with the ignorance and bigotry that live in their hearts, despite their church's position, which made them feel blindsided.

Sen. Chris Buttars isn't the only bigoted fool on the Hill.
