Since the debate over comprehensive health care reform began years ago, AARP has fought to protect Medicare and fought for stable, affordable health care options for all Americans. With the passage by the House of the Affordable Health Care of America Act (HR3962), we say with confidence that this bill meets the critical needs of older Americans and future generations.
But the fight isn't over. We urge Sens. Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch to support provisions already passed by Senate committees in the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Act (CLASS). This plan will establish a national voluntary insurance program for long-term services and reduce Medicaid costs.
Americans need greater access to home- and community-based services and more financing options to help them pay for these critical services. The vast majority of Americans age 50 and above want to live in their homes and communities as long as they can. CLASS will help individuals live independently and help support family caregivers tending their loved ones.
AARP believes all Americans deserve access to affordable, quality health care, and urges Utah's congressional delegation to work toward this goal.
