I wonder how disappointed some former leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who were also great supporters of the U.S. Constitution and its principles would be at the recent decision of the church to support the Salt Lake City ordinance that denies landlords and business owners a major element of control over their property and businesses ("Pro-gay statutes win city, LDS nod," Tribune , Nov. 11). I'm thinking of leaders like LDS Church Presidents David O. McKay and Ezra Taft Benson and general authority H. Verlan Andersen.
To forbid one the right to refuse association with homosexual and transgender people takes away rights of property and business owners to protect their families and associates against perverse ideas and practices.
