So all 40 Republicans in the U.S. Senate oppose a public health option in any form. Their leader, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, said, "I think 100 percent of Republicans have indicated they don't think having the government in the insurance business is a good idea" ("Schumer: Public option is close to gaining votes," Tribune , Oct. 26).

Our Utah Republican senators have said as much on several occasions. Which is strange. One of the best arguments for the government being in the insurance business is right here in Salt Lake.

And it is supported by Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett and quite a few Republican veterans -- our highly respected Veterans Affairs hospital.
