Poisoned dogs

I am upset at the sympathetic and biased story by Stephen Hunt about the dog poisonings in City Creek by Merrill Wilson ("Salt Lake City man admits he poisoned two dogs near Memory Grove," Tribune , May 21). They were my dogs.

Hunt's article justified Wilson's action as a single act of poor judgment by an old man. I am also an older, "exemplary" citizen, although not Caucasian nor wealthy nor Mormon nor a doctor. I am disabled, but I volunteer for Aging Services and I faithfully pick up dog poop and broken glass.

After extreme suffering, my dogs died from strychnine in meat that Wilson casually tossed over his fence into a public area that is legally used by people with dogs and children. My dogs loved to run up that hill, looking for the foxes Wilson supposedly was poisoning. Well, the foxes are gone, thanks to Wilson, who is privileged to live atop a hill overlooking a beautiful public park where most people would be thrilled to have wildlife as close neighbors.

Perhaps my dogs' deaths served a purpose: to spotlight a malevolent practice.
