While the American economy is being reformed, let us not forget the minimum-wage earners and other low-income people.
Their lot can be improved by requiring every payday loan store to conspicuously display its annual interest rate for loans on the front of their store. This will increase competition among those who profit by the laws of usury, just as up-front posting of prices increases competition among gas stations. The smart shoppers among the poor will then have more money.
I would prefer a cap on interest rates for loans, but that is not likely to happen since legislators favor the wealthy.
