Proposition 8 in California was passed because of the efforts of passionate workers and donors. We see the power that people can have.

I now direct our attention to a matter that deserves at least as much effort: the recent underhanded plans by the lame-duck Bush administration and the Bureau of Land Management to despoil Utah rivers and the Utah landscape.

Lately, The Tribune has published several pieces on this cynical, destructive action, such as Ted Wilson's op-ed, "BLM would exclude most Utah rivers from protection" (Opinion, Nov 16).

Let's have some passion on this subject. You people who worked so hard on Prop. 8, do you care that much about same-sex marriage in California and not much about what is being done to our state? We need some outrage here, and some strident vocal protest.

Let's do as Wilson suggests and contact Congress and the Obama administration. Organized groups are good because they get more attention.

For good measure, let's also contact President Bush and his associates.
