Slandering LDS Church

Jean Baker states that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints no longer believes its article of faith that others can "worship how, where, or what they may" because it is trying to force other religions to worship according to the dictates of the Mormon conscience about same-sex marriage ("LDS tenet," Forum, Oct. 23).

Nice try. Bit of a stretch, though. She said it herself: Those churches made the decision to stop performing certain marriages; they can still perform same-sex marriages without recognition by the state. So people still can worship "how they may" according to the dictates of their own conscience.

It's interesting how people seem compelled to speak all sorts of slander against the LDS Church for advocating its view. That view is very legitimate: not objecting to certain same-sex partnership rights, while also defending a long-standing foundation of society - marriage.

I support a number of the partnership rights that the homosexual couples want, but not same-sex marriage. I'm weary of redefining the pillars of society because a group of people want to feel accepted and tolerated.
