Who knows what really happened behind the sealed doors at the House Ethics Committee hearing on Rep. Greg Hughes, R-Draper? ("Ethics panel clears, slaps Hughes," Tribune, Oct. 18). Why were we locked out? Sure, Hughes got off, but so did O.J. Simpson - once. The committee did give Hughes a letter telling him to shape up and act like a legislator should. Many in the Legislature should take that advice. Hughes has a history of being a tough, opinionated, my-way-or-the-highway guy. Can he change his behavior any more than O.J. did?

Unfortunately, there are many in the Legislative who use their position for their own gain. The list is long, but House Speaker Greg Curtis, R-Sandy, is at the top. Please vote wisely so Hughes and Curtis leave and take their ugly-baby buddy Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, with them.

The first question any voter should ask of a candidate who knocks on their door and asks for their vote is: "What are you going to do about getting a meaningful, enforceable ethics law passed - one with teeth?" If they so much as stutter, vote for someone else.

Can we find the courage to vote the cabal out this year? Please?
