David Haughey complained that Barack Obama selected a Washington insider and a man with great experience as his running mate (Obama's 'truth,' Forum, Sept. 3). This choice shows someone who looks at a situation and makes a measured decision that will result in a more rounded ticket. McCain painted Obama as too inexperienced to do the job, and Obama responded by selecting Joseph Biden for balance. Who better to assist Obama in maneuvering the halls of Congress and foreign capitals while attempting to make changes? Of course, we know who McCain picked, leading me to question his logic.
Additionally, Haughey calls Obama a flip-flopper. I will never understand this accusation. Surely, some politicians do change their minds depending on the polls, but could it be that some are people who listen, think, learn and modify a decision based on new understanding?
We have had eight years of a president who steadfastly holds to his initial decision despite insurmountable evidence that it was not the best one. It is time for a change indeed.
