In response to Robert Jennings' letter to the editor of June 17, which said that everyone "is aware that Mormons will not associate at the same table with those who are consuming any alcohol to avoid the appearance of evil." He also said that Mormons communicate, "We're weird and we want to be weirder."

Perhaps, Mr. Jennings, you need to get to know some more Mormons before you assume we are all like your caricature. Mormons are of all races, nationalities, backgrounds and mindsets. I, for one, sit at the table with friends who drink alcohol, and if you were my friend, I would drive you home afterward. Assuming all Mormons are the same is as inaccurate as assuming all who drink are the same.

Now, can you and I agree that the Legislature should focus instead on something that would truly make driving safer: Ban phone usage by drivers?
