As a really old, retired Salt Lake County deputy sheriff it has been my privilege to have served under, served with, run against and known personally every Salt Lake County sheriff since 1956.

All honorable, professional peace officers and all contributing substantially to the quality of Salt Lake County law enforcement.

And then came Sheriff Jim Winder. What can I say? Major forced political changes, unprecedented population growth, drug and crime increases, management of a large overstuffed jail, management of a civil division, forced creation and management of the large first class Unified Police Department. Aside from all that a really great guy. Believe me, he will be missed.
