I commend Salt Lake County Council members Richard Snelgrove and Aimee Winder Newton for pressing County Mayor McAdams for answers as to who decided which homeless population would be at the South Salt Lake facility. It was disconcerting to see McAdams' response: "To really try to boil it down to the gender of people who will occupy a facility really is a little bit shortsighted." I live half a mile from this location and attended the public meetings, and McAdams specifically told a group of us that it was yet to be decided which population would be housed there. Single men are the highest homeless risk group and, yes, I would like to know who made this decision to house this group so far from transportation and health care and so close to the Jordan River Trails where there is already a growing homeless problem. Government works for us, the taxpayers. Government needs to be transparent and listen to its constituency. Voters need to remember this come election time. McAdams out; Snelgrove, Winder Newton, South Salt Lake Mayor Cherie Wood and West Valley City Mayor Ron Bigelow in.
