As the GOP gleefully sets out to destroy America's social support services, I am especially appalled at the words of our Utah representatives. Sen. Orrin Hatch recently sneered at people who want affordable health care, saying they want to be on the dole and take every dime they can.
It's not that Hatch doesn't want anyone to get a government handout, he just wants different people to get it. This reverse Robin Hood happily takes from the poor to give to the rich. I was surprised when I learned that even the GOP's new "health care" plan takes a ton of money from the poor and middle class and hands it to the wealthy.
Tax cuts for the rich and subsidies for hugely profitable industries? That's Hatch's welfare system. He thinks we won't figure it out, though. Watch for him promulgate the false and failed idea of so-called trickle-down economics.
Sen. Hatch, when you're sneering at ordinary Americans for wanting to be able to afford health care like all of their first-world counterparts, take a sneer in the mirror. Because you're part of the biggest dole system of all: The GOP's endless efforts to take from the poor and give to the rich.
