If the area of an American national monument can be reduced a little, it can be reduced a lot, it can be eliminated. Reducing the area of an established national monument in the name of political compromise is a potential pathway to elimination of not only additional national monuments but national parks and national wildlife preserves as well. The ultimate potential is the privatizing of land endowed to the American public.
