Reading the paper recently has been upsetting. The salaries, bonuses and perks Vivian Lee and others at the U. of U. (and probably most universities) are receiving are obscene. One wonders how all of this got so out of control. It mimics the federal government and we should all be up in arms.

No wonder our children can't work and pay their way through college like they used to do. Is any one person so invaluable that he or she is paid a million dollars salary in a year besides being given housing, perks and bonuses? What would qualify Lee to receive a bonus of $247,500 last year?

Many in our family have been or are business owners. Making a profit in the real world is not always easy and making a huge profit is rare. Maybe bringing all of this to light will give the university an opportunity to evaluate its systems and bring them back into a normal range.

The perks may not be equal but many of these people are being paid more than our governor and the U.S. president. And think of what we pay our school teachers in comparison. Something's not right. Let's see some sensible changes.
