In March of last year I wrote to The Public Forum advocating for President Barack Obama to designate Bears Ears a national monument as a permanent alternative to Rep. Rob Bishop's pretentious Public Lands Initiative; a disastrous, industry-oriented giveaway of these priceless lands for commercial use and abuse.

Who could have foreseen that just a year later, these same lands, now within the established boundaries of a national monument, issued by presidential decree and ostensibly safe from rapacious profiteers, would have to be protected from a lying, thieving, cheating Republican president and his miscreant, fossil-fuel-loving, anti-environment administration?

The stupid people of this nation have elected their president, and the world isn't safe. We must maintain a vigilant resistance until the tide turns toward reason and sanity once again.
