Here it is, afternoon, and I am still amazed that modern analytic journalism is no longer present in our quality Tribune? Case in point: The breezy reporting of the new micro shelters replacing one of our most treasured coffee haunts.

Ostensibly, this is to help the homeless? A generous abode is offered, 250 to 500 sq. feet: The size one would think would be found in New York City! Great for the homeless with small children. Then, there is the amount to be charged for monthly rent, given as a percentage: 40 percent of the median community income?

Two points here. 1) The affordable rent for people (check with HUD) is 30 percent of one's individual or household income. This amount includes the cost of utilities! 2) Where are these homeless who earn even 40 percent of the average income of the community? What a farce!
