One tenet of my personal philosophy is that success is defined as doing the right thing for the right reason in the right way. Though others may disagree, I believe if each of us would "go about doing good until there was too much good in the world," the energy expended and the results attained would create a very different world from the one in which we now live. Many people spend a lifetime trying to change the world by "doing good." Sen. Orrin Hatch is one of those people.

Hatch comes from a humble background. He has dedicated his life to helping others and giving back. His name stands out among the many state leaders with whom I have worked who have continually promoted the common good of our people. My friendship with him has been built on a foundation of shared values.

As a public servant, Hatch has spent the greater portion of his life serving his state and nation. He has listened to the needs of our citizens, promoted strong communities and advocated for our most vulnerable. During his years of dedicated service, he has earned the respect of his fellow senators and statesmen. He has represented Utah well. He has been unwavering in his support of Utah's law enforcement community. He is a strong advocate for our men and women in blue. In addition to the numerous bills he has championed to strengthen and defend our nation's police forces, Hatch has put political expediency aside to fight publicly against coordinated efforts to disparage and undermine law enforcement. Through his leadership in congress, he is working hard to ensure that the courageous policemen and women who keep us safe can continue to do their work safely.

Strengthening local communities and supporting law enforcement are just two issues Hatch has championed that are near and dear to my heart. There are, of course, myriad other causes he has embraced to the benefit of all Utahns. From his unyielding efforts to protect religious liberty and uphold the Constitution to his principled leadership on education and health care reform, Hatch has demonstrated time and again his willingness to go to bat for the people of Utah. Hatch's value to our state — indeed, to our nation — is difficult to overstate. He is arguably the most effective legislator in the nation, having sponsored more bills that have become law than any member of Congress. And he shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. If anything, Hatch is in his prime. Consider that in the 114th Congress alone, he sponsored more bills that became law than any other sitting senator — Republican or Democrat. His experience is unequaled and his influence immeasurable.

Hatch is a legislative powerhouse and an indispensable leader for Utah. He has already secured countless victories for our state, but were he to serve another term, he could do even more. As a key member of the Senate leadership team, chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee and as a trusted confidante of the President-elect, Hatch will have more influence than ever before, giving Utah an outsized voice in the affairs of our nation.

Hatch has gone about doing good his entire life. Were he to continue working in the Senate beyond 2018, the additional good he could do for our state and our nation would be without precedent. Hatch has served Utah admirably for many years, but I believe his service and position prove that his best years are yet to come.

I add my voice to the growing chorus of business leaders, legislators and other Utahns urging Hatch to run again.
