In response to the request, "SLC residents invited to comment on housing needs for low- and moderate-income residents" (The Tribune, Dec. 3): Please, Jennifer Schumann, reach out to the LDS Church for more support in your endeavor to deal with the homeless crisis in Salt Lake City.

I would guess the LDS Church gives token support in dealing with the homeless crisis in Salt Lake City. Rather than token concern, a larger profile involvement by the LDS Church would encourage their members and others to support and address this shameful situation of human misery on the streets in our city.

The LDS Church is wealthy beyond our knowledge and continues to build elegant temples around the world where work is done for the next life, according to their beliefs. Yet people with lives here and now are left to suffer and die on our streets and back alleys of our beautiful valley.

The LDS Church members take care "of their own" in difficult situations, yet seem to have a blind eye to the suffering of the "others" in their midst. Salt Lake City is the beautiful, wealthy home base for the Mormon church, yet, shamefully, heads are turned away from the gathering of the miserable, lost souls who spill out on the streets of our city. Hopefully, the LDS Church is willing to do more to help resolve our human, heart-breaking homeless crisis.
