As a third-time unaffiliated single-issue federal candidate focused on climate change, Bill Barron just missed being included in the debate hosted by the Utah Debate Commission by .62 percent — having polled at 5 percent ("Third parties out in the cold," Sept. 8).

This is remarkable because Barron's persistence and dedication is paying off. Between 2012 and 2014, Barron more than doubled his numbers as a "climate" candidate. This year's polling numbers indicate that he currently has more than tripled his results from 2014 and is vying for 10 percent. Ten percent of the vote on an issue has historically been proven to be effective in inspiring political action. Every vote he collects sends a message to Washington that the people of Utah want our leaders to create an effective non-partisan solution to climate change.

With Rep. Mike Lee polling at 53 percent, let's use our votes for Barron to help drive the conversation, and inspire our leaders to unite and take bold action for the greater good.
