I was very impressed with John Kushma's column ("Kaepernick has a right, but he's still wrong") in the Sept. 4 issue of The Salt Lake Tribune. I am in complete agreement with his words. I had been a loyal supporter of the San Francisco 49ers for many years. But after what Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers coach, Jim Harbaugh, did to Alex Smith — but that is another story. Smith went on to play for Kansas City and led their team to the best record, ever.

The reason I am writing is because during the playing of the national anthem in the Rio Olympics some of America's gold medal winners did not put their hand over their heart. Was it because of ignorance, meaning no one told them that that is what we do in America, or was it for some other reason? I hope it was due to ignorance or that they were just caught up in the moment.
