Kudos to Emily Young, age 11. Her letter of Aug. 17 could teach a lot to people running this state and should question us, the taxpayers, for allowing our money to be squandered for killing coyotes by the thousands. It is perverse when a species serving an important purpose is marked for death.

Unfortunately the "Department of Wildlife Resources" board is staffed with members of hunting clubs, with only one exception. Therefore the DWR staff has a glaring conflict of interest and lacks balance. Taxpayer money is supporting a blood sport that the majority of people abhor.

Gov. Gary Herbert signed up to this idiotic, immoral killing, just as he signed up to supporting a presidential candidate who is a sociopath, narcissist, pathological liar, a bigot and a chameleon that, fortunately, often reveals his true self. So potentially handing over this country to a dangerous person that obviously has more than one screw loose is irresponsible and stupid.

Yes, Emily, you have every right to question "what kind of people" are leading this state. I do hope that your generation will be wiser and more compassionate in guarding this beautiful state from people with such poor judgment.
