It's become apparent that many people like Donald Trump for the same reason they like Comic Con: They enjoy indulging in fantasy. The trouble is that this fantasy has very real nightmarish qualities.

America since the two world wars has had a significant civilizing influence throughout the world. It looks as though many Americans are simply unaware of this fact or fail to recognize its importance. Have there been mistakes? Could things have been done better? Well, duh. This is no reason to give up the effort but rather to continue to improve on it.

Let's not pretend America has no need for the rest of the world, or that it has no need for us.
