Why do the Utah Legislature and U.S. Congress ignore the interests of the average American? The answers are all in the book "Dark Money" by Jane Mayer published this year.

The book explains how the Koch Brothers and other billionaires have been working behind the scenes to influence politicians to pass laws in their favor. Their efforts were tremendously helped by the "Citizens United" Supreme Court decision in early 2010. This allowed unlimited amounts of funds (hundreds of millions) from undisclosed sources to enter our political process.

Was the tea party a grassroots movement? No, it was well funded and well organized by these big money interests who wanted to undermine any government successes, which would show that government can work for the people.

It would be wonderful if everyone (whether conservative or liberal) would get a copy of this book and review it. You do not need to read it word for word, but I am sure you will find it enlightening.

We must break the cycle of big money controlling our politics. Remember, if the 99 percent vote, the 1 percent have no power! We must vote the Republican obstructionists, who are doing the billionaires' bidding, out of office.
