Thank you, Julienna Viegas-Haws ("What I have learned as a transition from my faith," May 3), for expressing the thoughts and emotions of so many of us that have gone through a departure from the LDS establishment.

For myself and many of my close friends, I can attest that it is a mixed bag of heartache and exhilaration; heartache for the people so offended by our transition and exhilaration for re-claiming your own life.

I went through my process over 20 years ago, while I was serving as the mayor of Highland City. The rejection and judgment was so severe that I was left with no choice but to move out of the city at the end of my 4-year term. I am happy to say now, that it was the most fruitful decision I ever made. My life has never been so beautiful and full as it is now.
