Brewvies is a fun and affordable entertainment venue in Salt Lake City. The state of Utah seems to be trying to drive them out of business by imposing onerous fines for allowing beer to be served during movies which sometimes feature brief moments of nudity.

I don't drink, but I've never encountered any problems at Brewvies from those who do. Moreover, a movie theater can't be expected to pre-screen every scene of every movie it shows.

If the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control succeeds in shutting down Brewvies, jobs will be lost. And people like me, my wife and our friends will be deprived of a fun and affordable way to see first-run movies on the big screen.

Perhaps most importantly, a vibrant business which holds blight at bay in an at-risk area of our beautiful capital city will be bankrupted for no good reason.

Unlike strip clubs, which prey on men with normal urges and no outlet for them, Brewvies delivers real value for money.

I resent the state's bullying in an attempt to enforce someone else's notion of morality down the throats of unwilling victims. We are not Saudi Arabia, and we should never aspire to be.
