I read John Scott's letter ("Use Internet sales taxes to fix nation's roads," Jan. 21) suggesting a web sales tax to be used for roads and bridges. Great idea, except for one thing: You cannot trust the government.

I don't know how old you are, John, but a little research will lead you to the fact that there was a gasoline tax imposed many years ago that was to be used for roads, bridges and related structures.

Unfortunately, those taxes were put into the general fund to be used as our "leaders" saw fit. Had the funds been put into a lock box for their intended purpose, we would not be having the problem we're having now.
