Kudos to you for publishing the opinion page piece entitled, "Don't let our leaders fall silent in the face of bigotry," (Dec. 27) and kudos to the authors, Stephen, David and Douglas Goldsmith and Gary Doctorman, for expressing so eloquently the sentiments of many Utah residents. We join their voice in urging reason, logic and, most of all, compassion as our country grapples with ways to help and support refugees from Syria.

As he stood at the Berlin Wall in June, 1963, President John F. Kennedy said, "As a free man, I take pride in the words, Ich bin ein Berliner."
