I have always considered myself to be an informed Utahn, but, boy, was the joke on me when I went to the usual polling places in Midvale on Election Day, only to find them empty. I was informed by a woman at Hillcrest High School that voting this year was done by mail only. Oh, no!

I rushed home and found that information to be true on the Internet. It did say that there were a few places far away that you could still take your ballots to if you had one. The 8 p.m. deadline had long past, so I had missed my chance to cast my vote against Proposition 1, refusing to grant a tax increase to further fund the wasteful and arrogant UTA — no matter that the prop was under the guise of also financing such things as roads, parks, and biking and hiking trails.

Well, as Shakespeare once said," All's well that ends well," as it looks like Prop. 1 is doomed to fail in Salt Lake County after all the votes are finally counted (God knows when).

Please, can't we go back to the "old school" format to be able to vote at the places we are used to? But — like computers, cell phones, iPhones and iPads — I guess there is no turning back.
