I am addressing the Spanish Fork Police Department, Utah state officials and Gov. Gary Herbert. We the citizens, your constituents, are tired of watching our young people attacked and murdered by the very men we employ to serve and protect us.

We all have a right to know how frequently the police employ brutal methods on the job. By creating a state database, we are creating the tools we need to study the problem in order to come to workable solutions in our individual communities. We need a sense of transparency and accountability in our Utah police forces.

On Aug. 28, 2015, our family member was killed by police after being called for wellness check. The police can no longer be trusted to police themselves. Our lives are affected by them. The least that can be done is to no longer be held in the dark.
