Some letter writers simply demand responses. Such is the case with Boyd Keisel ("GOP offers choice," Oct. 6).

First, his rail against the Tribune's liberal bias is defused by the printing of his own letter, not to mention articles by George Will, Rich Lowry, Charles Krauthammer, the Wall Street Journal and other conservatives.

Next, he wants Democrats to be held accountable for seven years of "failure." He cites "unemployment mess" (Obama only went from losing 800,000 jobs a month to creating 7.7 million compared to Bush's total of 1.3 million); the "economy" (Forbes states "Obama Outperforms Reagan On Jobs, Growth And Investing"); "out of control debt" (national debt increases: Obama, 53 percent; Bush, 101 percent; Clinton, 32 percent, Bush Sr., 54 percent; Reagan, 186 percent); "failure on foreign policy" (ended the unnecessary war in Iraq, drew down troops in Afghanistan, ended Cuban embargo, negotiated deal with Iran without trading arms for hostages, etc.)

So what "choice" does the GOP offer? First, no "choice" or fairness for women. Government shutdowns over funding for Planned Parenthood, funding for the Affordable Care Act, etc. Next, re-invade Iraq and send arms and troops into Syria, Pakistan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen. War with Iran. Trillions in debt for wars, and nothing for American middle-class citizens.

Some choice!
