Regarding The Tribune front page article on Jason Chaffetz, by Thomas Burr ("BYU kicker to political novice to GOP star ... ," Oct. 4). I take exception as follows:

The article pretty much paints a picture of Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, as a "star" politician, a political prodigy, if you will.

Very little attention is given to Chaffetz's recent rants about Planned Parenthood and inappropriately and with misinformation, taking Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards to task.

Burr, in my opinion, is clearly biased towards Chaffetz and the timing of the front page article only further muddies the waters of an already frangible GOP.

I'm also disappointed with The Salt Lake Tribune. As a subscriber for some 50 years, this is something I would expect from a more conservative media source.

I admire Chaffetz for speaking his mind, however, feel he goes off, like a loose cannon, at times, not checking his facts.

As it turns out, Chaffetz's "facts" were actually from Americans United for Life, an anti-abortion group. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., also laid into Chaffetz for needling Ms. Richards about her salary, coming off as Chaffetz being misogynistic and anti-women.

Too bad Chaffetz is not in the Senate. I'd like to see him get away with his antics against the likes of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.!

As I stated earlier, I feel the timing of Chaffetz's announcement to run for the House speaker post, is poor given the tumultuous nature of the GOP, right now.

However, maybe the timing is perfect as he seems to fit right in with the Republican Party as prevaricators of women and facts.

Mr. Burr, I look forward to more complete, straight forward and unbiased journalism from you and The Salt Lake Tribune!
