As winter starts its statewide siege with storms set to hit Monday and Tuesday, use this weekend to get your final fill of "feuille morte" before the cold and whipping winds leave trees completely bare.

In French, feuille morte describes the color of dying leaves: that brownish orange, deep red and yellow "deeper than spice," according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Those few leaves still hanging on will likely be gone by next week.

Saturday in Salt Lake City will bring highs in the upper-30s and lows in the upper-20s. The day will be cool and cloudy. Snow will begin to fall late Sunday night, picking up during the Monday morning commute as chilly winds blow in. Skies should clear by Wednesday, but snow showers could return by the end of the week.

The Utah Avalanche Center rates the potential for backcountry snowslides as "moderate" for most of the state's northern resorts.

Southern Utah, though, will see slightly warmer days. Saturday temperatures will hover in the mid-50s. Some cloud cover might move into St. George by midweek, but no precipitation is in the forecast.
