Telephone reception — mobile and landline alike — apparently was disabled for multiple customers throughout the Tooele Valley on Monday evening amid a heavier-than-expected snowstorm.

Emergency managers on Monday evening reported that they did not know whether the phone outage was related to the 5 to 10 inches of snow that fell throughout Tooele County.

"As of right now, the cause of these outages is still unknown, and we are trying to find a solution to this inconvenience," Tooele County sheriff's dispatchers wrote on social media.

Tooele County also warned of delays in transporting students home from school.

As of 5 p.m., Monday's storm had dropped at least 9.5 inches in parts of Tooele County, with 10 inches reported in Sanpete County's Mount Pleasant, 6 inches in Eureka, 7 inches in Park City and 15 inches at Snowbird.

Monday's storms appeared to have bypassed Salt Lake City. Along the Wasatch Front, overnight lows in the upper 20s were in the forecast leading to a chilly but dry Tuesday in the mid- to upper-30s. However, temperatures were expected to plummet into the teens in Tooele County, with high winds creating wind chills approaching zero degrees.
