Central and southern Utah were expected to bear the brunt of storms that will pelt the valleys with rain and bring snow to mountains above 9,000 feet elevation through Tuesday.

Precipitation was forecast to begin building late Sunday and become widespread through those regions on Monday and Tuesday.

Northern Utahns looked for some rainfall, too, but showers were to be isolated and light on Monday and again Tuesday.

The storms also brought cooler temperatures to the entire state. Sunday's highs along the Wasatch Front were pegged in the low-70s, and the mercury was to hover in that same range, dipping perhaps a couple degrees, as the workweek got underway.

Southern Utahns expected highs reach the low- to mid-80s on Sunday, but on Monday the temperatures were to retreat about 10 degrees.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated air quality as "green," or healthy, as the new week launched.

The Intermountain Allergy and Asthma website listed sagebrush as "very high," mold as "high," and other allergens "low" on its pollen index as of Sunday.
