Salt Lake City hit 90 degrees on Saturday afternoon, breaking a record set in 1956 of 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

It was the second straight day of record heat in Salt Lake City.

The temperature reached 93 degrees on Friday, breaking a record of 92 degrees set in 2001. The high also claimed another record by being the latest in the season that 93 degrees-plus has ever been recorded, the weather service says.

Temperatures were predicted to drop a few degrees into the 80s on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Overnight lows will range from the 60s in the valleys to the 40s in the higher elevations.

In southern Utah, St. George is predicted to have highs in the mid 90s Sunday and cool down to about 70 at night.

Gusty winds are expected to continue across much of northern and western Utah through Sunday and Monday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality is forecasting that the air quality throughout the state this weekend will be healthy.

Monday will be a little cooler in northern Utah, with highs in the low to mid 80s.
