A gentle rain welcomed northern Utahns to the new work week Monday, but storm clouds were to give way to partly cloudy skies and sunshine come Tuesday.

Weekend precipitation triggered a mudslide that briefly closed down U.S. 6 through Utah County's Spanish Fork Canyon over the weekend. The Utah Department of Transportation said the slide, reported about 1:50 p.m. Sunday, occurred at mile marker 193, but the highway was cleared of debris and reopened as of 7 p.m.

DOT spokeswoman Eileen Barron said the road could require additional lane closures to do more extensive cleanup on Tueaday, but traffic will continue to flow through the remaining lane with the aid of flaggers.

The same slide also halted trains on Union Pacific Railroad tracks in the canyon. UPRR officials said the lines were cleared for resumption of normal traffic about 9 p.m. Sunday.

As rain continued to fall throughout Monday along the Wasatch Front — Nephi had 1.14 inches between midnight and 6 a.m., with Provo recording 0.73 and Price 0.62 — the day's high temperatures dipped from the weekend's 90s into the low- to mid-70s. Tuesday, with cloud cover clearing, was expected to see highs rise into the upper-80s.

The wet weather skipped southern Utah, where highs on Tuesday were forecast to top triple digits, up a few degrees from Monday's highs under mostly clear, sunny skies.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated Salt Lake, Utah and Davis counties as "yellow," or compromised through the midweek, but the remainder of the state's monitoring stations earned "green," or healthy ratings.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website rated mold as "high"on its pollen index as of Wednesday, while chenopods were "moderate" and all other allergens "low."
