The first weekend of August will be hot in northern Utah, and hotter in the state's southern reaches.

But hey, don't go all R-rated, Al Gore about it. As comedian Jon Stewart explains, sizzling summers are, after all, just when "The sun gets close enough to the Earth to hug it."

Sure, it's going to soar into the mid- to upper-90s along the Wasatch Front, and flirt with triple-digits in Utah's Dixie Saturday and Sunday. No reason, fellow faux newsman Stephen Colbert cries, to fall victim to "Heatsteria," or the "global warming agenda."

Still, pesky thermodynamics being what it is, you may want to pack an extra bottle or two of water, slather on the sunscreen lotion, wear a wide-brimmed hat if you plan on going outdoors. Just sayin.'

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated Salt Lake, Weber and Davis counties as "yellow," or compromised heading toward the end of the work week, but the remainder of the state's monitoring stations earned "green," or healthy ratings.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website rated weeds and mold as "high"on its pollen index as of Wednesday, while other allergens were "low."
