At first glance, Utah's week-ending weather forecast might seem akin to mixing oil and water, gasoline and a campfire, or hip-hop and bluegrass.

The first two examples are pre-ordained to failure and explosions, respectively. But the cycles of rain showers and thunderstorms wrestling with sunshine and warm spring temperatures may be the meteorological cousins of Gangstagrass, the banjos, fiddles and twangy rap not withstanding.

So, "Strap your boots on tight, you might be alright," and keeping in mind the inevitability of "them long hard times to come," enjoy Friday's rain, lightning and warm reprieves when daytime highs will flirt with the 70s — an encore of Thursday's forecast for the Wasatch Front.

Add 3-5 degrees to the daytime high temperatures and that forecast for rain, thunder, sunshine and more rain works for southern Utah, too, as the end of the work week approaches.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated all monitoring locations — with the exception of a "yellow," or compromised air quality grade for Washington County — as in the "green," or healthy category through the remainder of this week.

Mold was "moderate" on the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website's pollen index, but all other allergens ranked "low" as of Thursday.
