One person was killed, two others injured and a stretch of south Salt Lake County's Redwood Road closed down Tuesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash.

West Jordan police Sgt. Dan Roberts said a northbound white pickup truck allegedly ran a red light, triggering the three-vehicle collision at the intersection of 8200 S. Redwood Road (1700 West).

The pickup struck a silver Nissan Altima, propelling it into the southbound lanes and a ravine, and killing its male driver. A female passenger in the car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The pickup's male driver, whose vehicle also struck a white Ford Mustang waiting at the red light, also was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The identity of the deceased was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Roberts said no citations were issued, since the investigation was still ongoing. However, impairment was being explored; a drug-sniffing dog reportedly was deployed to the pickup truck.

The northbound lanes of Redwood, a primary arterial for commuters, were closed down from 7800 South to 8200 South until noon while West Jordan police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
