Mother Nature's holiday gift to Utah: A winter storm that brought snow just in time for Christmas.

Overnight snowfall data from the National Weather Service (NWS) show ski resort areas along with Wasatch Front got most of the biggest gifts, including 7 inches of new snow at Brighton and Solitude. Snowbasin recorded 9 inches. Alta saw 10 inches of snow; Park City got 5 inches each.

On Salt Lake Valley floor, snow totals ranged from 6.5 inches in Salt Lake City's Avenues neighborhood to a high of 6 inches in Bluffdale.

NWS forecasters predict the storm will be the gift that keeps on giving. A winter storm warning remains in effect across the Wasatch until noon on Friday, with up to 20 inches of additional snow expected in area mountains. Accumulations for the valley floor and benches could see between 3 and 10 inches, the weather service said.

The Salt Lake Tribune will update this story as additional weather service data becomes available.
