Utah's Halloween forecast is as clear as Bullwinkle's crystal ball. "Eenie meenie chili beanie, the spirits are about to speak," the antlered seer proclaims. And yes, these are "friendly spirits."

Along the Wasatch Front, trick-or-treaters will enjoy late-afternoon to early-evening temperatures in the 60s. The only caveat for the costumed holiday minions will be to hold on to those pointy witches and wizards hats: Halloween prime time will be breezy, with south winds of 10-20 mph forecast.

All Hallows Eve was ushered in Thursday by slightly warmer conditions in northern Utah. The forecast called for highs in the upper-60s.

Southern Utah's flocks of diminutive superheroes, sorcerers, ninjas, zombies and spooks could look to filling their goody bags in temperatures in the 70s on Friday, just a few degrees cooler than Thursday's expectations.

The Utah Division of Air Quality graded the entire state as "green," or healthy for breathing up to, through and beyond the witching hours. No sneezing, either: the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website reported Thursday that allergen levels were so low that they simply did not register on its pollen index.

But if you do opt out of the door-to-door quest for sweet treats, you might as well improve your literary knowledge. Perhaps a seasonal favorite from a dark poet, like Edgar Allen Poe, ala cartoon moose?
