Washington • Rep. Rob Bishop's longtime top aide, Scott Parker, is leaving the congressional office to take a post with the LDS Church's Washington Temple, and a onetime intern who worked his way up the staff hierarchy will take over.

Parker has served as Bishop's right-hand man since Bishop's time as chairman of the Utah Republican Party from 1997 through 2002. Parker served as the state GOP's executive director. He ran Bishop's first run for Congress in 2002 and then was tapped to run the Utahn's congressional office.

Bishop said Parker was a loyal and hardworking aide.

"It will be unusual walking by his office and seeing someone else there," the seven-term congressman said in a statement. "This is an ideal opportunity for Scott to stay here close to family well after I am gone from Washington. I wish him well as he uses his considerable skills to serve the [LDS] Church."

Parker has served as a bishop in the Capitol Hill Ward, or congregation, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Devin Wiser, who began as an intern for Bishop, will take over as chief of staff this week.

Wiser, a native of Cache Valley, graduated from Utah State University and holds a law degree from George Mason University.

He launched his congressional career as an intern, then served as a staff assistant, legislative assistant, legislative director and most recently as the deputy chief counsel for the House Natural Resources Committee, which Bishop heads.
