HB206 • Legislation aimed at requiring the state to help — rather than prosecute — a child engaged in prostitution unanimously cleared its first vote Tuesday.

HB206, first substitute, is aimed at ensuring that a child victim in sex solicitation cases receives services from the Division of Child and Family Services.

Under current law, a child referred more than once to the division for such activity could be subject to delinquency proceedings.

HB206, sponsored by Rep. Angela Romero, D-Salt Lake City, shields a minor victim of prostitution or human trafficking from such prosecution.

It now goes to the full House for consideration.
