West Jordan still hasn't finalized a settlement with resigned City Attorney Jeff Robinson.

A proposed lump-sum payment of $103,000 to the attorney, negotiated over the course of several months, was pulled from the City Council agenda Wednesday night without explanation.

Spokeswoman Kim Wells said Thursday it was unclear whether there were some unresolved questions about the settlement or whether the absence of one councilman prompted the indefinite postponement.

Council members went into a closed-door session after the open meeting and may have discussed the personnel matter in that forum.

A call to Councilman Ben Southworth, who made the motion to delay a vote, was not immediately returned Thursday.

Robinson, city attorney since 2008, was placed on paid leave last April at the direction of Mayor Kim Rolfe. The suspension was never explained, and other council members balked at the move, contesting Rolfe's authority to take such action under the city's manager/council form of government.

Regardless, Robinson never returned to work, although he continued to receive his salary and benefits. He officially resigned in June, although the city has declined to make the letter public.

The proposed settlement would have Robinson waive any legal claim against the city for a long list of potential grievances, from breach of contract to slander.
