Utah County residents file petitions against bus route

Provo • Eight people opposed to the Utah County Commission's bonding for up to $65 million for a new bus route have filed a petition for a referendum.

The county is funding the new route with a federal grant.

The Daily Herald of Provo reports that the petitioners will need to collect 18,000 voters' names and contact information by June 5 to force the referendum.

The county clerk's office would have about 30 days to verify the signatures.

If the petitioners are successful, the bus referendum would be on the county ballot in November 2016.

Orem resident Sharon Anderson is one of the petitioners. She says she is opposed to the Bus Rapid Transit bonding because she believes the federal government is trying to use its money to bribe states.
