The Utah Senate and the Utah Symphony serenaded each other on Friday.

The Senate praised the symphony on its 75th birthday, while a brass sextet from the symphony played selections in the Senate gallery.

"This is their 75th year, and what a treasure they have been," said Sen. Margaret Dayton, R-Orem, who sponsored a citation honoring the symphony that gave its first concert in October 1940.

Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, said the symphony not only feeds the souls of Utahns, but even helps economic development. "Companies are willing to come to Utah because of the marvelous arts organizations we have."

The Senate citation called the symphony a "cultural ambassador" for the state.
